Last year sometime, a friend of mine shared an image with me that she found on the internet, and I immediately thought “That would be an amazing Ten of Swords!”
Turns out, that’s exactly what it ended up being.
This delicious design is by Lisa Sterle. According to her website:
Lisa Sterle is a Columbus artist with work spanning from comic books to concept design to pop-culture-fueled illustration. Her work is often bright, expressive, and occasionally tinged with horror— marrying her two favorite themes: the beautiful and the grotesque. She has worked with Vault Comics, IDW, BOOM! Studios, and many others. She is the co-creator of monthly comics Long Lost and Submerged, as well as creator of The Modern Witch Tarot Deck, a modern and diverse interpretation of the classic Rider-Waite tarot deck.
I was super intrigued.. but it wasn’t until I saw the Magician card that I knew I had to have the deck.
I don’t know what it is about her that I loved.. but I think it’s her whole “bad ass” vibe.
I have already rolled this out and used it with some in person readings and the cards read like a dream. My only issue is that the card stock is so heavy that I have a hard time wrapping my little hands around it… but I wouldn’t change it.
Here is my full review of the Modern Witch Tarot Deck. For just the cards, jump to 16:44 but then you will miss my quirky commentary and bra adjusting.
